Caution: Oesophageal Tears and Ruptures
Partaking in a kambo ceremony poses the risk of causing an oesophageal tear or rupture. Tears or ruptures are not caused by the kambo substance itself, but by pressure on the oesophagus caused by vomiting when there has been a weakness in the oesophagus or predisposition to oesophageal tears that is unknown by the client.
Whilst this is an extremely rare occurrence, it is vital that you are informed and have an understanding of this risk before attending a kambo ceremony.
Several of the questions outlined in the Pre-treatment Health and Medical History Questionnaire below are specifically aimed at determining whether you may be at risk of an oesophageal tear or rupture. If I have any concerns, I will either refuse treatment or offer an alternative method of kambo application, depending on your circumstances. However, you must be aware that oesophageal ruptures and tears can occur in healthy individuals with no predispositions.
To further reduce the risk of this occurrence, you may consider having an Energy Wave Kambo treatment instead of a traditional kambo treatment. Some information about this treatment is available here. Please contact me to discuss this option if it resonates with you.
There are two types of tears or ruptures which may occur during an episode of vomiting:
A Mallory-Weiss tear is a small tear in the lower oesophagus, which is easily diagnosed and treated. To read more about Mallory-Weiss tear, click here.
Boerhaave’s syndrome is a spontaneous perforation of the oesophagus caused by a sudden increase in intraesophageal pressure as a result of severe straining or vomiting. This is a rare but serious condition which requires immediate medical treatment. To read more about Boerhaave’s Syndrome, click here.
In the interest of your safety, I will require you to sign a declaration stating that you have been informed of and understand this information.
